Is there a difference in utility ratings and capabilities for these two trucks?
A. Yes. As the larger, full-sized pickup, the Sierra 1500 has higher utility ratings all around than the light-duty Canyon. Depending on what you have to tow or haul, either one of these models can easily fit the bill and make quick work out of your heaviest loads. When it comes to towing ability, the Sierra 1500 ranges from 7,400 pounds to 9,500 pounds, while the GMC Canyon has a towing capacity of around 3,500 pounds to 7,000 pounds. Additionally, the larger Sierra 1500 can also haul more, with a payload range of 1,500 pounds to 2,200 pounds, compared to the Canyon truck's payload range of 1,400 to 1,500 pounds.
I'm looking for a truck with a lot of customization options - which one will best suit my needs?
A. Either one will exceed expectations. In fact, both models have a variety of customization options to choose from, with multiple cab styles, trim levels, and engines. However, the GMC Sierra 1500 does have a few extras that the Canyon does not. For example, the Canyon is available only as a four-door crew cab or extended cab, but the Sierra 1500 adds a third style option, a two-door regular cab. Further, the Sierra 1500 also has two additional trim levels to choose from and it has five possible powertrains, compared to three on the Canyon pickup.
Which truck has more interior space for my family?
A. The GMC Sierra 1500, as the larger model, has more space inside than the more compact Canyon. Looking at the crew cab style for both models, the Sierra 1500 has around seven inches of extra backseat legroom, as well as more shoulder room in both rows. Meanwhile, on the extended, double cab style for both models, you can once again expect around seven inches of more rear legroom on the Sierra 1500 than the Canyon. However, when it comes to front seat legroom, the Canyon edges out the Sierra 1500 by a little bit.
Which truck has more power for my heavy work-related tasks?
A. The GMC Sierra 1500 has more oomph when it comes to your heavier jobs than the Canyon. Both offer responsive power and topnotch utility, but, while the Canyon has an option between a V6 powertrain or two four-cylinder engines, the Sierra 1500 lineup includes two impressive V8 engines, as well as a range of other great options.
